Raj's Story

Posted in Stories

Raj was born into a Sikh community and converted to Christianity as an adult. Her brother was diagnosed with cancer yet in the process of praying to the many gods of her religion, she found only one source was fully able to take on her pain and sadness, Jesus.

After Raj and her family converted to Christianity she found that her world became unsafe. She was in danger of her life, and the lives of those in her home. After an attack on their home, she moved to a different city to find refuge and safety, but danger found her in this new place. After men came into her home, physically assaulting Raj and pouring acid on her mother, she knew there would be no safe place for them in India. She prayed and trusted God to provide a way out. When a visa to the US allowed her and her family to leave India, she had to make the hard decision to leave behind her mother, father, and brother. Saying goodbye to them and trusting God will protect them all, though miles apart.

Years later, her brother would see the cancer return after 16 years of remission. On the day her brother passed away, she was able to talk with him on the phone, sharing prayers and love through miles of separation.

"Slowly, slowly I am feeling better", Raj says. The depression, anxiety, and fear that surrounded Raj in India have faded with each passing day. Her Sundays are spent with her church and home family. She was serving as an usher, greeting people as they walk into the doors. She is finding a new way of life and trusting God every step of the way.
