I’m pregnant and just received a prenatal diagnosis, what do I do now?

First of all, congratulations on the new baby! Second, take a deep breath. Getting this type of news can be overwhelming, stressful, and even scary. Often doctors can add to the stress simply by the way they deliver this news. However, you can find much support and encouragement today, along with many resources. We would encourage you to not search the internet looking for answers, sometimes things found on the internet are not helpful at all. What we would like to encourage you to do is reach out to a parent who has walked in your shoes. Other parents are your best source of information because they’ve lived it! If you need help finding a parent to talk with, please reach out to us, there are many at Northpointe who would love to talk with you. Other parents can tell you that there is much beauty in parenting a child with special needs. It may be hard to see right now but God made him/her perfectly and has great plans for their life. Soon you will see how much of a gift they truly are to you, as well as to those around you.
