God’s Will for Your Year
God’s Will is NOT Safe
“The safest place to be is in the center of God’s will.”
I remember reading that line—it sounded nice. Comforting, even. But what God was asking of me felt anything but safe.
“You expect me to share that with 50 strangers?!”
“Lord, there is no way I should be in tent city at 16…”
“You want me to pray how often?”
“Love them? But they’ve done nothing but hurt me.”
Safe? It didn’t feel safe. It wasn’t.
I remember walking down G Street near the railroad tracks that cut through downtown. I had just finished handing out lunches to the homeless. My hands were empty, but my heart felt heavy. That’s when we were interrupted.
“Hey kid, come in here.”
“What?”
“Hey kid, come in here. I’ll give you twenty dollars.”
The man’s yellowed grin stood in a shadowed doorway. Everything in me screamed, “Get out!” We ran. He followed. We were faster. The fear lingered the rest of the afternoon.
And yet—we went back the next week. Same mission. Same risks
God’s Will is Not Comfortable
Christians know this truth: God’s will is not safe, not in the worldly sense. Following Him doesn’t mean escaping danger, avoiding suffering, or hiding from grief. That’s not the Christian life.
Jesus Himself said,
“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves…” (Matthew 10:16
The Apostle Paul echoed,
“For your sake we face death all day long…” (Romans 8:36)
This is the way of the cross. But we forget, don’t we? We drift toward comfort. We make plans that keep us safe and resolutions that make life easier.
Yet, Christians don’t set goals; we discern them.
We don’t pursue comfort; we pursue His kingdom.
What Is God Asking You to Do in 2025?
Do you know what God is calling you to this year? Have you discerned His will—by the Spirit, according to His Word?
I challenge you: don’t settle for “safe” goals. God’s plans require courage, but take heart—King Jesus provides the comfort. It is the way of the Christian to walk boldly into the lion’s den, into uncertainty, into the hard and the holy.
If you’ve never learned how to discern God’s will, we’re here to help. Join us in 2025 to discover what it means to hear, know, and follow God’s direction for your life.
