Love That Lasts: God’s Definition of Love in Marriage
In our current world love is often reduced to fleeting feelings or romantic moments, it’s easy to forget what love truly is especially in marriage. Many couples start strong, but over time, life happens. Challenges come. Feelings shift. And in those moments, we need something deeper that we can grab on to other than emotion. That’s why the best place to start any conversation about marriage is with God’s definition of love
What Is Love, really?
The Bible doesn’t leave us guessing. In 1 Corinthians 13:4–7 (NLT), we get one of the clearest pictures of love: “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”
That kind of love doesn’t just happen. It’s a daily choice. It’s selfless. It’s committed. It’s resilient. It’s the kind of love that says, “Even when it’s hard, I’m here. I choose you.” This is the kind of love God calls us to in marriage not a love that fades when things get difficult, but a love that grows deeper through the trials.
