The name “KNOWN” was chosen for our Orphan Care ministry simply because we know every orphan around the world is KNOWN by God. He knows their specific circumstances, and has unique plans and desires for each of them. Many times we merely look at the large number of orphans in the world and only think of them as “one child of the millions that are fatherless,” but God knows and loves each of them individually.

We are a group of caring individuals who want to mirror the image of how God has adopted each of us into His family. We are individuals who have adopted, fostered, or simply have a heart for the orphaned child. Our heart’s desire is that one day we will be able to see every orphaned child in a home. To aid in that process we want to bring awareness into the church about fostering, adopting, and how to reach out to help the fatherless community. We are called by God to “look after orphans and widows in their distress…”

James 1:27 It is not a suggestion by God…we are called.

Every 2 seconds an orphan dies from malnutrition. 87.6 million orphans live in Asia, 43.4 million live in Sub-Saharan Africa, and 12.4 million live in Latin America and the Caribbean. Every 15 seconds another child in Africa becomes an orphan because of AIDS. Every day 5,760 more children in the world become orphans. Every 2.2 seconds a child ages out of the system with no family and homeless. More than 500,000 children are in the US foster system with over 120,000 waiting today to be adopted. 143-210 million orphans and waiting children is a BIG number but God is not looking to you to solve the problem. You are only to be faithful to do what He is asking YOU to do. One Christian, EVERY Christian, can make a difference.

We work to provide support to those considering fostering or adopting, for those during the process, and those post-adoption. We will be having small group studies as well as resources available for those in need which can include clothing, baby items, meals and possibly help financially. We provide continued sponsorship and support to our contacts at the children’s home, Bagan Agathos, in Kolkata, India. We plan to send mission teams focused specifically on caring for orphans in India and possibly other countries. We will also have an orphan hosting program during the summer months where families can host an adoptable orphan from another country. Locally, we care for orphans by doing clothing drives and drives for items the children need. We also organize events such as foster and/or adoptive family picnics.

Not everyone is called to adopt, but we are all called by God to do something as it states in James 1:27. Many times there are inexpensive and easy ways to show love to an orphan.
